Today I closed my very first real estate transaction.
While I am incredibly excited about the closing itself, what I’m celebrating most is the journey that got me here.
At the beginning of my Year of 50, becoming a realtor started as a simple thought- “You know what? I think it would be fun to sell houses.”
It wasn’t part of some grand master plan. It wasn’t something I had been working toward for years. It was simply an idea that kept tugging at me. As I challenged myself throughout this Year of 50 to step outside my comfort zone and try new things, I decided to stop wondering and start doing.
So I signed up for the classes.
I studied.
I took the exam.
I passed.
Then came the hardest part: putting myself out there.
Anyone can sign up for a course. Anyone can pass a test. The real challenge is believing in yourself enough to take the next step. To introduce yourself as a Realtor. To attend networking events. To host open houses. To ask questions. To risk hearing “no”. To keep showing up even when you’re not sure where the next opportunity will come from.
Four months ago, my real estate license was officially granted.
Today, I closed my first transaction.
In those four months, I’ve learned more than I ever imagined. I’ve learned that real estate is not for the weak. I’ve learned that every transaction has twists, turns, and lessons. I’ve learned that success isn’t a race and that every agent’s path is different.
Most importantly, I’ve learned that I am capable of more than I sometimes give myself credit for.
A few days ago, I joked that selling houses was my alter ego.
The truth is, I hope helping people buy and sell homes becomes one of my superpowers.
Today I’m celebrating this milestone. Tomorrow, I’ll get back to work. Because I hope this is just the first of many.
